Le Città di Pianura, directed by Francesco Sossai, is set in the Veneto region and follows the story of Carlobianchi and Doriano (Sergio Romano and Pierpaolo Capovilla), two friends well past fifty who still feel like teenagers, stubbornly clinging to an endless adolescence.
Their lives revolve around drinking and endless nights that inevitably stretch into the early hours, chasing blurred dreams. Broke and without any clear destination, they have only one sacred ritual: the last round from one bar to another, as if they might still find meaning at the bottom of a glass.
During one of these aimless evenings, they unexpectedly cross paths with Giulio (Filippo Scotti), a young architecture student with a kind soul and a dreamy gaze.
What was supposed to be just a bizarre encounter turns into a surreal journey across the flat expanses of the Venetian plain, among deserted roundabouts, neon lights, and silences broken only by the roar of the engine. Riding in a beat-up car alongside two unlikely companions, Giulio finds himself discovering a different way of looking at the world, love, and his future.
A melancholic yet ironic road movie, it moves at the slow rhythm of a fading hangover, leaving behind the bittersweet aftertaste of truth.
