Synopsis
Vittorio De Sica – La Vita in Scena, the documentary directed by Francesco Zippel, tells the story of Vittorio De Sica’s life, work, and legacy, offering an intimate and multifaceted portrait of an artist who transformed his observation of the world into a universal emotional experience.
Through exclusive access to the De Sica family, rare and previously unseen archival materials, and the reflections of contemporary filmmakers and artists from around the world, the film reveals the enduring modernity of a vision that continues to illuminate cinema and shape the way we perceive reality.
Among those paying tribute to the master are internationally renowned figures such as Wes Anderson, Isabella Rossellini, Ruben Östlund, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Francis Ford Coppola, Carlo Verdone, Nicola Piovani, Dominique Sanda, Asghar Farhadi, and Andrei Zvyagintsev.
Their reflections are woven together with the heartfelt memories of De Sica’s family members, including his son Christian and grandchildren Andrea, Brando, Maria Teresa, and Eleonora. The documentary is further enriched by contributions from historian and biographer Jean A. Gili, Gian Luca Farinelli, director of the Cineteca di Bologna, and testimonies from Luciano De Ambrosis and Eleonora Brown, who share their memories of working as child actors alongside Vittorio De Sica.
