Ancient Traces – Earth’s Future
Environmental History in the Middle Ages: Nature, Society, Culture

In the Middle Ages, life was inseparably connected to nature, although the perception of nature was constantly evolving. Plants, animals, waterways — the entire environment was shaped by human activity, while transformations in nature, in turn, influenced the lives of communities.

Professor Michele Campopiano’s book examines these changes in relation to economic and social developments, exploring how medieval culture represented the interactions between society and the environment, as well as humanity’s place within the cosmos.
